Our school used to work in the Bexley Wetland. We were sad to see it go with the earthquakes.

St James School is a state integrated, Catholic primary school for children aged 5 to 11 years of age. Our attractive school is situated in the suburb of Aranui within the city of Christchurch, New Zealand.

We are a multi-cultural school incorporating Samoan, Maori, Filipino and NZ European ethnic groups. Visitors to our school receive an official welcome that incorporates aspects of all our cultures.

We have a maximum roll of 117 children and our dedicated Principal, teachers, support staff and Board of Trustees ensure that the education provided at our school is of the highest quality. Our school was opened in 1965 on the site of the original Aranui Speedway track.

Technologies (ICT) are integral tools in the teaching and learning process at St James School. All teachers are provided with an iBook laptop computer each for planning, reporting and assessment requirements, as well as being a teaching and learning aid.

St James School has several pods of iBook laptops as well as iMac computers throughout the school. All computers are linked internally and to the internet via a wireless network. Children are immersed in technology at all levels of the school and utilise technology as a normal part of their daily learning experiences.

Congratulations to Sesilia and Presgott, our fantastic cooks and the team of children led very ably by Ms Parry and Mrs Firth-Scott at the Ellerslie Flower Show. Our students worked very hard with the support of many of our families and community to deveolp their Samoan Garden, "Afio Mai I Samoa." It was a great learning experience for the children as they took turns to present their garden through song, dance and talking to the visitors at Ellerslie Flower Show. We were delighted with the bronze award for the garden and second prize for our cooks who expertly cooked their lettuce and lamb wraps, presented on woven flax plates, tying in with the theme from the garden. A huge effort, with the planning and preparation due to the enthusiastic leadership of Ms Parry, Mrs Firth-Scott and Christine. A great team!

We had a lot of fun with the crazy bikes from Pedalmania at our Family Fun Night. It was great that a lot of the adults had a go too!
