Our Presentation at a National WWF Workshop

Jo Barlow and St James student Kaweau were invited presenters at the WWF Habitat Protection Fund workshop held in Wellington in 2006.

They spoke about our school's work in the Bexley Wetland and how this is integrated in the learning at our school.

We are truly grateful for all the support and prayers offered from around the country and indeed around the world, after the earthquakes and after shocks. Many thanks to those schools who have looked after our children while they needed the break from Christchurch.

Thankyou everyone.

St James School is a state integrated, Catholic primary school for children aged 5 to 11 years of age. Our attractive school is situated in the suburb of Aranui within the city of Christchurch, New Zealand.

We are a multi-cultural school incorporating Samoan, Maori, Tongan and NZ European ethnic groups. Visitors to our school receive an official welcome that incorporates aspects of all our cultures.

We have a maximum roll of 117 children and our dedicated Principal, teachers, support staff and Board of Trustees ensure that the education provided at our school is of the highest quality. Our school was opened in 1965 on the site of the original Aranui Speedway track.

Technologies (ICT) are integral tools in the teaching and learning process at St James School. All teachers are provided with an iBook laptop computer each for planning, reporting and assessment requirements, as well as being a teaching and learning aid.

St James School has several pods of iBook laptops as well as iMac computers throughout the school. All computers are linked internally and to the internet via a wireless network. Children are immersed in technology at all levels of the school and utilise technology as a normal part of their daily learning experiences.

Edible Garden and Native Pathway Blessing

We celebrated the completion of two projects with an official opening and blessing. The Envirogroup have led the school with planning and developing a native pathway, which is situated in the corner of the school. Room 3 have led the development of the Edible garden, involving the whole school with planning, building, and planting. They are putting in a barrel to collect rain water for watering their gardens. We have had the first harvest, making salad sandwiches and we took home silverbeet for our families.
